Press Release Body = About the Book: Geordie and the Spaceman is the story of a young lad named Geordie who meets Yuk, a space boy who has stolen his father's space ship as a dare and landed on Earth by mistake. Yuk knows his father will not reach him for a week and the story covers the boys' adventures as they build a lasting friendship. Geordie's family look after Yuk and keep his arrival a secret, aided by the fact that Yuk can turn himself invisible. As the week progresses, Yuk realizes that there are a lot of similarity between his race and that of the humans. In fact, Earth has been carefully studied by the 'Yukkarites' for quite some time and Geordie's encounter with Yuk leads to an early meeting of the two life forms.
Excerpt from the Book: Coming out of the door was a pair of long legs with 3 long toes on each foot. The body was not in proportion to the legs. It was round and small. Then came the arms and the head appeared. The arms were like the legs, long and thin with 3 long fingers on each hand and the head was big. The thing that struck Geordie was the eyes. There were two he was relieved to see and large and the alien looked very scared. More scared than himself. As it came down the gangplank, the creature was frantically looking around and as it surveyed the land, there was a high pitched noise like a puppy coming from its mouth. Geordie realized that this alien was terrified and so slowly, he stood up from behind the tree and he walked forwards to the spaceship. The alien stepped back, trembling with fear.
Geordie slowly extended his hand in friendship and said "Hello, my name's Alan." His father had told him always to be polite to strangers and there was nothing more strange than this spaceman. The alien hesitated but did the same and when Geordie took his hand he realised that the skin was warm like his own but blue-green in colour and with great surprise was answered by the figure in front of him. "My name's Yuk from the planet Yukka and I'm a Yukkarite and an astronaut!"
